Introduction
of a 20 mph zone in Saxton Road could have positive benefits in
terms of road safety.
Thames Valley
Police will not support any proposals for a 20 mph speed limit or
zone, which does not feature sufficient engineering measures to
achieve compliance.
In conclusion
the means by which such a speed limit is achieved clearly rests
with the advice provided by DfT. This advice to Local Authorities
should ensure that sufficient engineering works are in place to
result in an average speed of 20mph or less.
|
These concerns
have been noted and it is proposed that monitoring of speed in Blacknall
Road should be undertaken before and after the scheme is introduced.
Should there be no impact on speed, the introduction of physical
measures should be carefully considered.

As we only
have a couple of taxis collecting pupils for school in the Saxton
Road area, I cannot see that this proposal will have any effect
on the service we provide.

Does not object
to the scheme, but is concerned about lack of demarcation between
pedestrian areas and the vehicular areas. Would like to see the
use of tactile materials
|
These comments
have been noted. The use of tactile paving is considered neither
necessary nor appropriate. The design of the scheme has been developed
in such a way that it minimises the risks to all pedestrians. Vehicle
speeds will be reduced so that they can stop safely if a person
with visual or other impairment is in the carriageway.
