9. Provision of Bus Stop Clearways

Two late responses have been received to the consultation with local stakeholders:-

Councillor Lesley Legge

I fully support these measures as a way of helping to improve the situation regarding buses stopping in these 5 locations. I am aware through AbITS that bus stopping arrangements are being looked at as part of the implementation. I am also aware that concern has been raised by some local residents but hope that these measures will minimise the impact for them.

Abingdon Town Council

Your recent letter regarding the proposed bus stop clearways was reviewed by the Planning & Highway Committee. Members were concerned that disabled drivers would still park by no. 5 bus stop in West St Helens Street, and that the national coaches and other holiday coach companies would need somewhere to load and unload if prohibited from stopping at no. 4 bus stop opposite the War Memorial.

The Committee also expressed the view that, unless these measures were policed, the system would not operate in the manner in which it was intended to do.

These comments are without prejudice to the Abingdon Integrated Transport Strategy.
