Touchwoods Sports |
Generally supportive of bus stop clearway in High Street; Problems with buses running engines while stationary. |
Noted. Suggest Oxford-style Code of Conduct could be considered in longer term. |

Mr P Heast Glendale Electrical |
Problems with delivery calls to traders; Problems for refuse collection; Bus stop obstructed by buses parked for extended periods;
Objecting to institution of bus stop without prior notice. |
No easy solution to these.
Bus companies have been asked to desist from this practice. A Bus Stop Clearway will allow a 5 minute limit to be enforced. If still unsatisfactory, frontagers should send details of obstructions. Existing highway powers permit this. Explained need for urgent provision of extra bus stop, and lack of alternatives. |
All would be improved by move of stop to nearer Co-op (but would run risk of further frontager objections at new site). |

Vale of White Horse District Council |
Fully in support. |
Noted. |

Resident 4 West St Helens Street |
Consultation letter was not addressed to her; Needs facilities for loading and unloading;
Disabled parking space now in inappropriate place. |
Consultation was sent only to properties with frontages on same side of road; Traffic is free to pass through "Bus Stop" box but not to stop there. Only if bus stop is occupied by a bus (<15 mins. in any hour) would access on opposite side be affected. Will consider location of disabled parking bay. |
Could be improved by moving the stop to Co-op (street is wider here), but this would possibly require removal of residents’ parking spaces. |

Hadleigh (South) Ltd |
Opposes increasing frequency of buses, will take trade away from Abingdon; Problems with big vehicles damaging building when turning out of West St Helens Street;
Wants space for loading and unloading traders’ vehicles. |
County Council cannot control commercial bus frequencies, can only react;
Bus services in West St Helens Street are only provided by smaller vehicles (usually up to 8.5 metres long); no known previous "knocking" episodes attributed to buses; Cannot provide this in same space as bus stop. |
A length or width restriction could be imposed (but with unknown ramifications of access for removal vans, fire engines, dustcarts and other large or heavy vehicles). |

Newbury Building Society |
No prior notification of bus stop; Security risk, vandalism, first burglary occurred immediately after bus stop appeared. |
No legal requirement to notify frontagers, bus stop had to be defined quickly; Hopefully these events are not connected. |
Again, this particular objector would be benefited by moving the stop to the Co-op. |
