CTC Right to Ride, Oxford |
Yes |
Support the proposal. It will be very useful for cyclist, as the crossing and the island will act as speed reducers. Should the pedestrian "exit" onto the cycle track have tactile paving across the full width of the walk way of the shared use of the Marston Road cycle track and the existing footpath on the west of the cycle track, have lowered kerbs. Suggest that there should be a sign at the pedestrian crossing, directing cyclist to the existing subway to get to the Marston village. |
Tactile paving will be laid at all crossing points and kerbs lowered where appropriate.
Consideration will be given to signing but it should be noted that cyclist should not be cycling through the subway. |

Supports the proposal. The recently relocated bus stop creates congestion every time a bus pulls into it. |
This will be reviewed. |

Resident, Oxford Road |

Supports the proposal. Asks for signs to be put up on Cherwell Drive East, to warn left turning drivers about the new crossing. |
Temporary signs will be erected warning drivers of the changes. |

Why is this crossing being planned when there is a perfectly good and viable underground subway in the vicinity? The number of starts and stops will increase resulting in additional fuel use and the creation of fumes and gases.
If the proposal is not rejected, can you please take account of the following; a) Can a box junction be created on Cherwell Drive at each intersection with Oxford Road to allow for right turning, b) Allowing traffic to flow directly through the centre of Oxford to make crossing Cherwell Drive easier, and c) Money would be better spent on Green Road Roundabout. |
People don’t use underground subway as much, because it is considered longer and an unsafe route. This is unfortunately a side effect of improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Box junctions will be provided.
The provision of the crossing will make crossing the road easier.
This scheme is funded by a developer contribution and cannot be used for improvements to the Green Road Roundabout. |

Resident, Raymond Road |

Supports the proposal. We suggest a hatched box on the junctions of Cherwell Drive with the entrances to Oxford Road, so the traffic does not block up the entrance and the exit from Oxford Road into Cherwell Drive. |
Box junctions will be provided. |

The crossing should be a positive benefit to road safety. Points to consider: a) Close proximity; Gatso speed camera and associated road markings. b) Overhanging trees and foliage should be cut back in order to afford necessary and adequate visibility of signal heads.
c) The effect of noise from the audible signals on local residents. d) There should be street lighting according to BS5489 standards, and e) The need of temporary traffic signs to indicate the new crossing. |
Noted
Trees will be cut back as necessary.
This will be adjusted if necessary.
This is in place.
Temporary signs will be erected to indicate the changes to the road layout. |

Will the junction pit be an obstruction on the pavements or is it below ground level? Will the post with the control box on it be at the correct level in the ground so that the centre of the push button is between 1000mm and 1100mm above the footway level? Or will the junction pit and its workings affect the siting and depth of the traffic signal pole? Will this Pelican crossing have both an audible and tactile alert? Will the signal controller cabinet obstruct the footway on the southern side of the crossing?
Can wheelchair users get from the southern side of the crossing to the proposed island if they wish to take that route? |
The junction pit is below ground level therefore not an obstruction.
The push button will be placed at a suitable (standard) height for wheelchair users.
The Pelican crossing will have both audible and tactile alert.
The signal control cabinet will be located in the grass verge and will not therefore obstruct the footway. A wheelchair user will be able to get from the southern side of the crossing to the proposed island if they wish to take that route. |
