Scheme Categories

Stage B: Brief

Stage 1: Feasibility and/or Preliminary Design

Stage 2: Detailed Design

Stage 3: Pre-opening

Stage 4: Post Opening

CATEGORY A SCHEMES

Stage B, 1, 2, 3 and 4 Audits required for all schemes

  • New Footways and Footpaths
  • New Pedestrian Crossings
  • New Cycle lanes, tracks and crossings
  • New Junctions
  • Junction Alterations (geometrical and/or control)
  • Traffic calming by vertical or horizontal deflections
  • New Bus Lanes/Priority measures

CATEGORY B SCHEMES

Stage B audit carried out by Auditor and further audit stages subsequently determined by Auditor for each individual scheme

  • New Pedestrian phase at existing traffic signals
  • Advance cycle stop line
  • Visual traffic calming (signing/lining features)
  • Major highway maintenance works

CATEGORY C SCHEMES

Stage B audit carried out by Project Manager and scheme subsequently referred to Auditor as category A or B scheme, if required

  • New Speed Camera
  • Speed limit changes
  • Road re-alignment (e.g. at bend in rural location)
  • Minor maintenance works
  • New or altered Road Markings
  • New Safety Fencing
  • New traffic signing
  • New Street lighting schemes
  • Surface treatment works
  • Traffic Regulation Orders
  • All un-categorised schemes

CATEGORY D SCHEMES

Proposals reviewed by Auditor (based on Stage B audit) to determine the audit stages required for each particular scheme

  • Developer funded schemes
