1. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The project comprises the following carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing schemes in the approved Highway Maintenance Programme 2003/04.

2. NEED FOR PROJECT/CONSISTENCY WITH STRUCTURE PLAN

The schemes have been assessed as being needed to preserve the existing road network in a safe and satisfactory condition. They are consistent with the objectives and targets for Highway Maintenance set out in the Council’s Local Transport Plan.

3. PREFERRED OPTIONS/DETAILS OF SCHEME

The schemes consist of strengthening failed or weak roads. The A4130 scheme will be carried out together with the construction of a cycle track alongside the road over the length of the scheme.

4. FUNDING

Funding uses the agreed Transport element of Single Capital Pot credit approval.

5. FINANCIAL/STAFF IMPLICATIONS

The total cost, including fees, is estimated at £1.620m. The works are all programmed to be completed in 2003/04. Some contract payments will be made in 2004/05.

Babtie Group Ltd will design and supervise both the schemes.

6. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS

Noise reducing road surfacing will be used where appropriate.
