INTEGRATING COMMUNITY EQUIPMENT SERVICES

A Vision for an Integrated Equipment Service for Oxfordshire

In line with the recent Department of Health document ‘Integrating Community Equipment Services’ and the Audit Commission report ‘Fully Equipped’, Oxfordshire Health and Social Services proposes the development of a modernised, flexible, user-centred, integrated equipment service to meet the needs of sensory impaired and disabled people of any age and their carers supporting all life stages through: -

    • Establishment of a reference group of all stakeholders
    • Partnership working between statutory, voluntary and independent sectors
    • Establishment of a Disabled Living Centre, Centre for Enablement or Centre for Independent Living for information, demonstration and the provision of non-specialist equipment in line with agreed criteria
    • Easy and equitable access to specialist assessment, information and provision of specialist equipment in line with agreed criteria
    • Development of a quality management system for continuous service improvement, including keeping pace with technology
    • Ensuring user and carer involvement throughout the process
    • Pooling budgets where appropriate
    • Development of standards of assessment and provision
