AND BEARGARDEN ROAD, BANBURY:

Comment |
Officer Comments |
|
1 |
Introduce a 20 mph Zone |
This would only be possible after the measures have been introduced and speeds monitored. Option C most likely to achieve the necessary speed reductions needed. |
|
2 |
Make these streets access only for residents |
To achieve this gating and TRO’s would be necessary; this option is likely to be disliked by the majority of residents. |
|
3 |
Hump may cause vibrations and pollution |
The humps proposed are only 70mm high with shallow ramps, as the road is only residential there should be little impact from large vehicles. It is recognised that road humps do increase pollution, but this can be balanced against the environmental benefits brought about by the reduction of speed and volume of traffic and a safer environment for residents. |
|
4 |
Extra buildout just south of Park Road if Option B adopted |
As this alternative only achieved 3 responses it is not being put forward as an alternative |
|
5 |
One way system |
One way streets can lead to higher speeds because drivers know they will be unopposed. |
|
6 |
No speed signs |
The use of street lighting automatically identifies the road as being 30mph, it is not normal practice to put signs up in this instance. |
|
7 |
Muted colours for tables |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
8 |
Add buildouts into option C |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
9 |
Mini roundabout instead of change of priority at the Kingsway / Beargarden Road junction, or a double mini. |
This has the potential to improve accessibility via Beargarden Road and as such is counter to the objective of reducing rat running. |
|
10 |
No mini roundabout at the Milton Street junction |
A mini roundabout here interrupts flow along Beargarden Road deterring rat running, however it is not essential for the scheme. |
|
11 |
Parking restrictions |
A parking review is currently being undertaken by Babtie our engineering consultants. This comment will be passed to them to include into the review |
|
12 |
Option A but with no buildouts |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
13 |
To many humps in Option C |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
14 |
Quality materials to be used |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
15 |
Too many buses along Parks Road |
This is a commercial service from Bretch Hill Estate to the Town Centre. Passing through this residential area also provides them with a bus service. |
|
16 |
Weight limit on Beargarden Road to prevent use by College buses and heavy vehicles |
Signing strategy in the main Horsefair scheme will direct heavy vehicles away from the residential streets. |
|
17 |
Extend traffic calming into Broughton Road |
Broughton Road / West Bar is a busy road taking 7500 vehicles per day. There is also currently parking there, it may be possible to locate the parking to achieve a calming effect. This will be considered as part of the parking review currently being undertaken by Babtie our engineering consultants. |
|
18 |
Resurface Bath Road |
It would be sensible for any maintenance works to be done before any traffic calming however this will be investigated prior to any works commencing. |
|
19 |
Waste of money, width of road does not permit speeding |
Traffic calming also being introduced to reduce traffic volume and rat running. |
|
20 |
Parking along West Bar a problem |
A parking review is currently being undertaken by Babtie our engineering consultants. This comment will be passed to them to include into the review |
|
21 |
Bend by People’s Park needs improving |
There is limited scope because of buildings etc, but with the introduction of the traffic calming measures speeds will be slower. |
|
22 |
Buildouts thought to be dangerous |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. Although there has been strong opposition to the use of buildouts in general, and is therefore unlikely to be considered further |
|
23 |
Two humps needed in Crouch Street |
There is already a junction table at the junction with Beargarden Road. A second could be installed at its junction with the Shades. |
|
24 |
Humps not to obstruct street parking |
This will be considered during the detailed design stage. |
|
25 |
Approach College re: parking |
