CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS REVIEW

Proposed Brief for a County Council Magazine

Format

  • A4 magazine with colour

Possible Content

  • Single, strong cover photograph
  • Message from Leader or Executive
  • News in pictures – double-page spread rounding up what we’ve been doing since previous edition
  • "Working for You" – page for each service
  • Statutory information - performance Indicators etc. as required
  • Regular features on the Council’s strategic priorities
  • "Talking Rubbish" – waste and recycling info and messages
  • "Talking Travel" – road safety and Travelwise messages
  • "It’s never too late" – adult education opportunities
  • "Taking car"e – safety messages
  • A-Z of services
  • "What’s on the Web" – feature highlighting new parts of our website
  • Photos/contact details of members, service heads
  • "Things to do"
  • "Oxfordshire’s treasures" – feature on a key local attraction college/garden/stately home/park
  • "Why I love Oxfordshire" – celebrity interview
  • "Around old Oxfordshire" – photo feature using Cultural Services archive
  • "Ask us" – readers’ questions answered (If none we can include some FAQ’s)
  • Public consultations – as appropriate
  • Customer satisfaction questionnaire

Frequency

  • Start by publishing twice a year, in October and June (the latter to include BVPP summary information), possibly increasing to three editions to include a February budget special.
  • First edition to be in October 2002.

Distribution

  • To all Oxfordshire households via the Royal Mail.

Writing/Photography

  • Where possible in-house, with additional pieces of work bought in on a freelance basis.

Advertising

  • Some councils do, many don’t, after finding that it was not time/cost effective. Design/print companies offer a range of options which will be considered during the tendering process.
