Decision details

Proposed 40mph speed limit - Banbury Road, Chipping Norton

Decision Maker: Delegated Decisions by Leader of the Council

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To seek approval for the introduction of a 40mph speed limit, new bus stops and crossing points as part of s106 agreement for planning approval 23/00536/OUT

Decisions:

The Chair introduced the item to the meeting.

The proposals were a response to a development called ‘Hit and Miss’ farm.

The Chair noted support from a local Town Councillor but stated that a potential 20mph speed limit was outside the scope of this decision.

The Chair noted a detailed response from the bus companies and commented that this proposal would improve bus infrastructure, but that bus routes and services were a matter for the bus companies, not the Council.

Officers confirmed that the proposed bus infrastructure was covered by s106 monies, but that it didn’t cover the bus services.

The Chair thanked officers and agreed to the recommendations in the report.

RESOLVED to:

a)    Approve the extension of the existing 40mph speed limit on Banbury Road leading north-eastwards out of Chipping Norton, as advertised, and

b)    Approve the two new Bus stop clearways (with associated ‘No Stopping except for buses’ restrictions) on either side of Banbury Road, as advertised.
