Summary of representations in person
Councillor Alan Armitage (Oxford West Central) supported the proposals.
Mr Smith expressed concern regarding cyclist safety. It was important to look at the profile of the road which included deep gutters and high gulleys. It seemed to him that the primary intention of this scheme was to enhance the route for buses with little regard for cyclist safety. The pavements on Iffley Road were very wide and therefore offered an opportunity to define a legitimate space for cyclists.
Mr Collins confirmed that the scheme was aimed primarily at easing bus flow and that a reconfiguration of the road to achieve what Mr Smith had suggested would need to be part of a bigger scheme.
Cabinet Member’s Comments
Councillor Hudspeth supported the aims of the current scheme. There was a limited budget which did not allow for further enhancements as suggested by Mr Smith. However he would ask officers to consider whether any resources could be allocated to increase the scope of the scheme.
Decision
