OXFORD, PHIPPS ROAD – PROPOSED RELOCATION OF HIGHWAY GATE

Introduction
1. In November 2007 the Cabinet Member for Transport received a report seeking approval to relocate a highway gate from Bailey’s Road to Phipps Road. A consultation process was undertaken and included the promotion of a Traffic Regulation Order in support of the changes. Authority was given to relocate the gate but the recommendation failed to request authority to make the supporting order. A copy of the report is attached at Annex 1 (download as .doc file).
How the Project Supports LTP Objectives
2. The scheme will contribute to the LTP objectives by removing through traffic from the area so improving the street environment.
Financial and Staff Implications
3. Oxford City Council will fund the scheme and the County Council’s Legal section will be involved with the Traffic Regulation Order process
RECOMMENDATION
4. The Cabinet Member for Transport is RECOMMENDED to approve the making of the necessary Traffic Regulation Order in order to relocate the Highway Gate from Bailey’s Road to Phipps Road.
