Use of Bus Lanes by Private Hire Vehicles

Summary of representations in person
Mr Cramer made a number of amendments to the report:
Paragraph 3 bullet point 2 and Annex 3 Thackley Place to read Thackley End Paragraph 3 bullet point 4 Belbroughton Road and Linton Road to read Leckford Road and Farndon Road Annex 3 – an indication of whether the surveys had been inbound or outbound.
Supporting the proposal Councillor Fooks expressed some surprise that the figures had not indicated greater use but some concerns regarding the increased use of narrow bus lanes and the potential for conflict between cyclists and other users. She asked that separate cycle provision be kept under review.
Councillor Smith also referred to the misplaced concerns regarding a mass increase in use but felt that multi use of narrow bus lanes should be monitored and if necessary reviewed if accidents occurred. She hoped that no cost would fall on the County Council from adaptations to bus gates.

Councillor Hudspeth asked officers to investigate adaptations to the bus gates.
Decision
Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:
(a) to agree to the use of bus lanes by Private Hire Vehicles and to authorise that relevant Traffic Regulation Orders are made; and
(b) not to make any changes to the bus lane signage at this stage.
