Report

Consultation on Variable Message Signing

A copy is attached to the signed copy of this decision.

Summary of representations in person

Mr Clough referred to ongoing discussions with District Councils regarding siting issues and the Highways Agency regarding placement of signs on A34.

Councillor Fooks welcomed the proposals.

Mr Howell advised that a Travel and Information Management Policy would be presented to the Cabinet on 20 May.  That policy had been developed to ensure effective management of travel and information issues and to ensure that the network was managed in line with wider transport issues.

Cabinet Member’s Comments

Councillor Hudspeth welcomed discussions with the Highways Agency but expressed disappointment with regard to District Council comments regarding siting of signs particularly as the County Council were pursuing a uniform design and making every effort to find the least sensitive locations.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

to :

(a)               approve the implementation of the initial six Variable Message Signs as shown in Annex 1 to the report CMDT4 and the procurement of the associated Traffic Management Database; and

(b)               ask officers to negotiate arrangements with the Highways Agency for additional signs on the A34 and a common management strategy, within Access to Oxford project development.
