Delegated Decisions by Cabinet Members: Cabinet Member for Transport – 23 November 2006

Petitions and Public Address

Present:

Cabinet Member for Transport: Councillor David Robertson

Officers:

Graham Warrington (Chief Executive’s Office)
Steve Howell (Environment & Economy)

Ms Christine Mason presented a petition (117 signatures) in the following terms:

"We the undersigned wish to register our complaint about double decker buses using Littlehay Road and Rymers Lane as part of their route. We urge the Council to take active steps to remedy this situation"

Summary of representations in person

Speaking to the petition Ms Mason explained that residents were extremely concerned at the introduction of double decker buses on these streets and advised that 120 buses used the route over a 10-hour period. An existing 7.5 tonne restriction on these streets implied that they were not designed for use by such vehicles but that an "except for buses" exemption seemed to represent double standards. She suggested provision of a turning circle outside the Nelson Public House or alternatively rerouting services along the Cowley Road.

Cabinet Member’s Comments

Councillor Robertson advised that he would ask officers to investigate if there was anything that could be done.

Signed

Cabinet Member for Transport
