Summary of representations in person

Seeking clarification regarding timetabling for Scheme 09/06 Councillor Legge also referred to:

  • provision of single lane markings in Stert Street and High Street once the SCOOT system had been put in place to encourage traffic to the single lane concept and whether that would be sufficient for the creation of a 20 mph zone;
  • the need for a list of actions under Phase 2 of AbITS;
  • concerns regarding traffic levels at the Drayton Road double roundabout junction;
  • progress with regard to the setting up of the Air Quality Steering Group.

Cabinet Member’s Comments

Councillor Robertson confirmed that the date indicated in the report (March 2009) was the completion date for Phase 2 and advised that the AbITS Working Party would be drawing up a project plan pulling together all aspects of the Stage 2 process including proposals for a 20 mph zone and air quality. With regard to the Drayton Road junction he thought it unlikely that more could be done from a highway engineering point of view but he would refer Councillor Legge’s concerns on to relevant officers.

Mr Howell added that it was hoped to initiate proposals for monitoring air quality on a county-wide basis early in 2007 and undertook to update Councillor Legge on the various issues which she had raised.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

to note the report and progress on the schemes.

Signed

Cabinet Member for Transport
