ITEM CMDT5

CABINET MEMBER FOR TRANSPORT - 15 FEBRUARY 2007

OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL (HIGH STREET, DIDCOT)(BUS LANE, ONE WAY AND PROHIBITION OF WAITING) ORDER 2007

Report by Head of Transport

Introduction

1.                  This report provides details of comments from the formal consultation on a proposal to implement a Bus Lane, One Way system and Prohibition of Waiting on High Street, Didcot.  A plan of the proposals is attached at Annex 1 (download as .doc file) with a summary of comments/objections at Annex 2 (download as .doc file) .

Background

2.                  When the Orchard Centre was developed High Street was re-developed between Broadway and Hitchcock Way.  Central Drive was constructed at the same time.  It was completed in December, 2004.

3.                  It was intended that High Street, between Central Drive and Broadway would become a ‘Bus Link’ with access available to buses, taxis and pedal cycles only.

4.                  It became obvious that the road was being used by all types of traffic and it subsequently transpired that the necessary Traffic Regulation Order had not been progressed.

Formal Consultation and Advertisement

5.                  Formal consultation was carried out between 23 November and 21 December, 2006.  Two responses were received and are summarised at Annex 2.

Financial Implications

6.                  Funding has been allocated from Revenue – the Public Transport Didcot bus link allocation for 2006/07.

RECOMMENDATION

7.                  The Cabinet Member for Transport is RECOMMENDED:

(a)               to note the comments received in response to the formal consultation; and

(b)              that the Oxfordshire County Council (High Street, Didcot)(Bus Lane, One Way and Prohibition of Waiting) Order 2007 be made as advertised.
