Summary of representations in person
Councillor Legge considered that these proposals should have been introduced 18 months ago on a six month trial basis but was pleased that local businesses had been consulted although she sympathy for those businesses with no back loading facility. She asked that provision of a loading bay be considered, expressed concern regarding resident parking, which remained a real concern in the town centre, and also the effectiveness of the SCOOT system.
Mr Warren confirmed that a loading bay had not been part of the advertised proposals.
Cabinet Member’s Comments
The Cabinet Member considered it important to approve the scheme as recommended but asked officers to investigate possible provision of a loading/unloading bay within the northern end of the existing pay and display spaces in Bridge Street and also as part of the Old Gaol redevelopment,
Decision
Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:
to authorise:
(a) the making of the amended Traffic Regulation Orders to restrict peak hour loading/unloading activities as described in this report;
(b) the removal of a length of general parking place in Bridge Street, Abingdon; and
(c) implementation of the associated works to relocate the ‘gated’ traffic signal.
