ITEM PN6 -
ANNEX 2
PLANNING
AND REGULATION COMMITTEE -
13 JANUARY 2003
Two applications
for proposals at Grundon’s Depot, Goulds Grove, Ewelme.
Consultation
responses and Representations
The
Environment Agency
No
objections. However, recommend informative for applicant.
A
second letter was sent to the EA asking for additional information on:
- The need for the
Waste Transfer Station and whether there were any other facilities within
southern England which dealt with the kinds of special wastes dealt
with at Ewelme No. 1;
- If permission
on this site was refused how this would affect the waste licence; and
- The acceptability
of locating a special Waste Transfer Station next to a reasonable sized
office development.
The
EA responded saying:
- That although
there are a number of sites that accept hazardous waste it appears that
there are not any sites of a similar size and type to Ewelme transfer
station within the counties of southern England (not including Devon
or Cornwall).
- In the event that
planning permission for the Ewelme site ceases then the (waste) licence
remains in force.
- There is a potential
risk to the surrounding area due to the nature of the wastes … however
if the site is operated to standards of best practice and a risk assessment
has been carried out and the necessary infrastructure and management
procedures put in place the risk to the adjacent offices should be minimal.
