FUTURE FIRST ACTION PLAN 2006-2007

Summary of Targets

CARBON

40% reduction in CO2 emissions from Council buildings and activities between 1990-01 and 2009-10

    • Develop a long term strategy for reducing CO2 emissions from Council buildings, staff travel and Council activities by end of 2006-07
    • 10% reduction in energy consumption through Council buildings and activities between 2004-05 and 2009-10
    • 3% of Council total energy use from on-site renewables by 2010
    • 95% of electricity for Council buildings from renewable sources by 2010

WASTE

50% increase in the amount of waste from Council buildings diverted from landfill between 2004-05 and 2009-10

    • Develop a long term strategy for reducing the amount of waste going to landfill from Council buildings and activities by the end of 2007-08
    • 10% reduction in the amount of waste produced from Council buildings between 2004-05 and 2009-10
    • 40% increase in the amount of waste from Council buildings being recycled between 2004-05 and 2009-10
    • 10% reduction in the Council stationary bill between 2004-05 and 2009-10

10% increase in the amount of recycled products being used in Council buildings and activities

    • 98% of Council sites using 100% recycled paper by 2006-07
    • Increase in the amount of recyclate used in highway and building activities (target pending)

WATER

Develop a long term strategy for reducing water consumption from Council buildings and activities by the end of 2006-07

Use Prudential Funding to implement water saving measures at 5 sites with above average water consumption rates by end of 2006-07

CORPORATE LEVERS AND TOOLS

40% of services and staff can consider and react to the environmental implications of service and personal activities by 2009-10

    • Develop a long term strategy for increasing the profile, effectiveness, monitoring mechanisms and impact of the Future First project on Council staff and activities by 2006-07
    • 50% increase in staff awareness of the Future First brand and what it is trying to achieve between 2005-06 and 2009-10
    • Environmental champion networks in place at 50% of all large Council sites by 2009-10
    • 3 innovative projects piloted in various Council sites by 2009-10
