LOCAL AREA
WORKING: "RESPONDING TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES"
Local Area Coordinator
- JOB PURPOSE
- To enable the
County Council to engage more effectively at the local level.
- To be the Council’s
"expert" on local issues in the XYZ area of the county and support
joint working between all relevant partners
- To work with
officers and members of the County Council to develop a corporate,
‘one organisation’ response to local communities on local issues
- To support members
in their representational roles, and Strategic Directors with their
area roles
2. MAIN
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Within the local
area, establish close working relationships key partners including
the district Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs), district and town
councils, PCTs, Police, voluntary and business sector organisations.
- Support Directors
and Executive members in relation to bilateral working with district
councils by ensuring that there is a focus on the key partnership
issues and that agreed action is implemented successfully
- Represent the
Council at local forums and promote a focus on community well being
by helping the forums to:
- Give a local
perspective on operational practices and/or policy proposals
- Concentrating
on key issues emerging from town plan/village appraisals
- Support local
services in the locality (youth service etc)
- Promote and
support local self help projects to sustain communities and address
problems of social exclusion by providing advice, project management
skills, helping to lever in funding from other sources and by working
with service specialists within OCC to ensure that action is consistent
with the Council’s policies and programmes
- Participate
in partnerships with other statutory agencies, the business and voluntary
sector and look for opportunities to promote effective joint working
and improve the service to the customer. In particular support community
strategies and town plan/village appraisal projects
- Work with OALC,
town councils and others to develop the role of local councils by
promoting and implementing arrangements for service delivery/advice
services being carried out at the local level.
- Support local
members to ensure that local issues of concern are made known to County
Council managers, and/or Executive members as appropriate
- Raise the profile
of the County Council in the local area by involvement in community
events and by working with members and service managers to promote
the Councils services and activities in the area.
- Liaise with
the Media Unit to promote the County Council locally
- Where required,
support locally elected members in their community representative
roles.
- Contribute to
the development of area working and community based policies for the
County Council
- Advise and support
service managers on the implementation of policies and projects to
ensure that action is effectively implemented to suit local needs
and aspirations.
- Monitor progress
against the Council’s action plan and provide regular briefings for
the Executive and CCMT
