7. Raising Educational Achievement Best Value Review

The Learning & Culture Scrutiny Committee on 20 May 2003:

  • welcomed the outcomes of the review;
  • noted that progress has already been made towards forming a secondary school action group (Area 1 Task 4 in EX7), which is already meeting in ‘shadow’ form) following the Best Value review recommendations;
  • supported the inclusion of members in the group of head teachers and officers formed to provide strategic direction for secondary education in Oxfordshire;
  • recognised the importance of Specialist Schools in driving up achievement;
  • drew attention to the review findings under ‘Impact of the independent sector’ (page 14*) in relation to achievement levels.

The Executive is asked to note the following amendments to the Schedules at EX12:
