WEDGWOOD ROAD, BICESTER - PROHIBITION OF WAITING ORDER

DIRECTOR’S RESPONSE

Acknowledges that the current situation is "difficult" and that something must be done. The County Council however have exaggerated the problem and the proposals are too restrictive. Where are the displaced vehicles to park?

There is very little scope for providing additional spaces due to the number of accesses and the need to maintain a right of way particularly for commercial vehicles.

The un-restricted section near Unit 7 should be restricted, as lorries cannot pass at this location and cause congestion. Where are the displaced vehicles to park? Fears that their allotted spaces will be encroached upon.

This is one of the few locations where parking can be allowed without affecting accesses. Because of the limited carriageway width it is unlikely that two lorries would be able to pass each other comfortably whether or not parking was allowed.

Limited space on site means that there is a "occasional" requirement for company vehicles to be parked on the carriageway. Restriction will thus affect the business.

The requirement appears to be more than occasional and the vehicles in question are usually heavy goods vehicles. Objection has little validity.

Thames Valley Police

No objection to the proposals.

The difficulties of accommodating the diverse requirements of the companies affected are highlighted, as is the likelihood of displacement to other streets.

Bicester Town Council

No objection
