1. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
The project comprises the following carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing schemes in the approved Highway Maintenance Programme 2002/03.
2. NEED FOR PROJECT/CONSISTENCY WITH STRUCTURE PLAN
The schemes have been assessed as being needed to preserve the existing road network in a safe and satisfactory condition. They are consistent with the objectives and targets for Highway Maintenance set out in the County Council’s Local Transport Plan.
3. PREFERRED OPTIONS/DETAILS OF SCHEME
The schemes all consist of strengthening failed or weak roads. In urban areas schemes include consequential rekerbing and resurfacing footways. It is intended that the A361; Banbury, Phase 2 scheme is carried out together with the proposed traffic calming measures between Bloxham Road and Warwick Road.
4. FUNDING
Funding uses the agreed Transport element of Single Capital Pot credit approval.
5. FINANCIAL/STAFF IMPLICATIONS
The total cost, including fees, is estimated at £2.424m. The works are all programmed to be completed in 2002/03. Some contract payments will be made in 2003/04.
Babtie Group Ltd will design and supervise the schemes on principal roads (A361 and A418). The other schemes will be designed and supervised by Highway Management staff in the Area offices.
6. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS
Noise reducing road surfacing will be used where appropriate.
