Minutes:

The Leader of the Council considered a report from the Corporate Director, Environment and Place presenting responses received to a statutory consultation on the proposed introduction of 20mph, 30mph and 40mph speed limits at Witney

The Leader of the Council was  RECOMMENDED to approve the proposed introduction of 20mph, 30mph and 40mph speed limits as advertised.

After hearing representations, the Leader of the Council commented on the evidence that reducing speed limits does improve safety on roads.  She pointed out that, although there had been a majority of responses against the proposals, the consultation exercise was not intended to be a referendum on proposals.  The Council believed that 20mph limits should be the norm but it was for individual communities to determine what is best for their areas and apply for these restrictions if appropriate
