ITEM EX27 - ANNEX 3

EXECUTIVE – 19 MARCH 2002

HANWELL FIELDS CYCLE NETWORK - BANBURY

Comments

Officers’ Comments

The location of the Toucan crossing should be moved further south, either closer to Ludlow Close, or even as far as the Barley Mow pub crossing

The location of the crossing has been chosen based on an expected desire line from the movement from the estates north of Cherwell Walk and from Cherwell Walk itself, and is also an alternative for all users who have concerns of security at the existing subway

Now that a new foot/cycle track is to be constructed, the footpath that runs adjacent to the rear of the properties on Horsham Close, that links Highlands to the Cherwell Walk, can now be removed.

This will be investigated and be considered when the new foot/cycle path and ramp are in place. It will require further consultation.

There is not enough width to provide a suitable foot/cycle track.

There is enough room to provide for a shared usage foot/cycle track, to comply with the Oxfordshire Cycling Strategy Guidelines.

Provision of a Toucan Crossing will not encourage increased usage.

The provision of the Toucan crossing will provide a safer alternative to the subway and a safer crossing point for the pupils going to Drayton School.

The 30 mph speed limit should be extended to the new roundabout at the Hanwell Fields access.

The speed limit will be considered during the Oxfordshire County Council countywide review of 30mph speed limits.
