Officer Comment

The introduction of a pedestrian crossing will make congestion in the area worse. Drivers entering and leaving Longfields will find their way blocked by main road traffic held up by the crossing. To alleviate this situation a "yellow box" should be painted.

The introduction of additional waiting and loading restrictions in the immediate vicinity plus "keep clear" markings at the Longfields junction should help keep congestion to a minimum.

Suggest a number of improvements that could be made to the path leading to Tubbs Crossing itself, and measures to divert persons exiting Garth Park to the crossing point.

Agree that slightly widening the path and providing an additional street lamp would improve safety generally. The path itself is not "highway" land so this would require both the owners consent and additional funding. The relevant landowner will be approached to see whether such improvements are feasible. Guard railing cannot be installed to divert persons exiting Garth Park as access needs to be maintained for vehicles servicing the electricity sub-station and railway.

If possible the crossing should be located more directly in line with the track from Tubbs Crossing or guard railing installed to direct people to the crossing.

The crossing cannot be located directly in line with the track due to its proximity to the Longfields junction. Guard railing cannot be installed as access needs to be maintained for vehicles servicing the electricity sub-station and railway.
