Cabinet Member’s Comments

(i)                 Launton

Councillor Waine noted that no schools had responded to the consultation, and there were no objections; there were also no implications for the capital programme.

(ii)               Burford

Councillor Waine noted that the pre-school had withdrawn its objections to the proposal, and also that the finance team believed the proposal could put the school a financially vulnerable position.

(iii)             Charlton-on-Otmoor

Councillor Waine noted the support for the proposal from the community, local providers and parents, and also that it would have no detrimental impact on other providers.  He also noted that the school had the capacity to cope with the increase in pupil numbers and that the advisory teacher’s report was a positive one.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

to approve the statutory proposals extending the age range of Burford, Charlton-on-Otmoor and Launton Primary schools from 4 - 11 to 3 - 11 by the addition of a nursery class.
