Cabinet Member’s Comments

I am thrilled with this project and how remarkably well the new building fits in with the old.

Coombe CE Primary School is a very successful village school and has had some of the best results of our Oxfordshire Schools over the past years.  However, the School has had to cope with no hall and old temporary buildings.

This project not only gives the School what it needs in terms of accommodation, it reduces the School’s carbon footprint immeasurably by providing ground source heating, photovoltaic cells, wind catchers to provide natural ventilation to the hall and sustainable urban drainage solutions for disposal of surface water within the site.

I would also like the County Council to officially thank the adjoining land owner who is acting with genuine community spirit by offering lease of land at low rent for the next 25 years to provide a playing field for the children of the school.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

(a)               to approve detailed project appraisal ED643.

(b)               to ask the Leader of the Council to write to the adjacent landowner to thank them for the provision of land to create a new school playing field and for their genuine community spirit.
