Summary of representations in person

Councillor Patrick outlined the desperate need for upgrading, as the school was particularly not well designed for accommodating special needs. Though the recommendation proposed improved the situation, she sought further work. She also requested further financial information.

Mr. Phipps responded that recommendation was not the most extensive of the options presented, but that action was required now to address the urgent need for modernisation. He also offered to clarify the proposals in further detail following the meeting.

Cabinet Member’s Comments

I note that Fitzwaryn is one of a number of outstanding Special Schools in Oxfordshire. The school has clearly expanded beyond the capacity of the building and we are committed to meeting the current and future needs of the school. This is the first phase of the project, with phase two to follow on directly on completion.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

to approve the proposals.
