A copy is attached to the signed copy of this decision.

Summary of representations in person

Councillor Fooks requested additional information on how the Council planned to deliver the timetable outlined in the report, both in staffing and capital terms.

Regarding Capital, Ms. Johnson responded that schools had been visited and short term priorities had been identified as outlined in the report. Long term planning for provision was ongoing.

Cabinet Member’s Comments

I refer to the announcement made at Council on 1 April 2008 that the Council has withdrawn the notice to change the age range for Springfield School. These proposals will not be considered on this occasion, though we will conduct a feasibility study for future implementation, followed by a further consultation period.

I reiterate that we must work with schools on what they desire in terms of provision. I accept that schools need a clear indication as soon as possible of the provision to be made.

An objection was received outside of the consultation period that was not directed to the proper officer and was not directly relevant to the decision being taken today. However, the issues raised are being addressed and officers will respond to the objector personally regarding wider provision for SEN students.

Decision

Having regard to the arguments and options set out in the documentation before me, the representations made to me and the further considerations set out above, I confirm my decisions on this matter as follows:

to approve the proposals, subject to the withdrawal of the proposals for Springfield School.
