CABINET MEMBER FOR SCHOOLS IMPROVEMENT –
4 JUNE 2007
ADDENDA
Item
2 Consultation
on the Proposed Closure of
Peers
School
to be replaced
by an Academy
The
following requests to speak have been agreed:
Councillor Olive McIntosh Stedman (a
local member) wishes to speak in favour of the
proposal.
Councillor
Deborah Glass-Woodin (a local member) wishes to speak
against the proposal. She acknowledges that
Peers
School
needs investment as it is located
in a deprived area and is meeting the needs of young people and families with
challenging behaviour. She does not think that
handing over democratic accountability to a private consortium is the best way
forward. She seeks assurance that all other channels have already been
vigorously pursued.
Mrs Brenda Williams wishes to speak against the proposal on behalf of the Oxford
Anti Academy Alliance.
Mr Andy
Gibbons wishes to speak against the proposal on behalf of the TUC. He is
concerned about the democratic implications of having an Academy.
