PENSION
FUND COMMITTEE – 26 MAY 2006
PAYMENT
OF DEPENDENT’S PENSION BENEFIT
Report by
Head of Finance & Procurement
Introduction
- This Committee
determined, at the November 2005 meeting, to delegate the decision,
to the Head of Finance & Procurement, of whether a child’s pension
could continue when a gap year had been taken.
- This report informs
Committee that a decision has been made under these delegated powers.
Current
Payment
- An ex teacher
in receipt of a compensatory added years payment died in November 2002
leaving a widow and son. The son was paid a dependent’s pension in accordance
with the Regulations until the completion of his A levels in 2004. He
then took a gap year before starting university in 2005. This gap year
included conservation work, which directly linked to his degree course.
- The Head of Finance
& Procurement considered and agreed to the request to continue payment
of the child’s pension for the period of the degree course, which is
due to finish in June 2008.
RECOMMENDATION
- The Committee
is RECOMMENDED to note the report.
