PENSION FUND COMMITTEE – 24 NOVEMBER 2006

PAYMENT OF DEPENDENT’S PENSION BENEFIT

Report by Head of Finance & Procurement

Introduction

  1. This Committee determined, at the November 2005 meeting, to delegate the decision, to the Head of Finance & Procurement, of whether a child’s pension could continue when a gap year had been taken.
  2. This report is to inform Committee that a decision has been made under these delegated powers.
  3. Current Payment

  4. The son of a deceased scheme member has been in receipt of a child’s pension whilst he took his degree.
  5. On completion of the degree course he was offered a place to study for a Graduate Diploma in Architecture, starting the following year. During the year a work placement, which counted as continuing professional development was undertaken.
  6. The Head of Finance & Procurement considered and agreed to the request to continue payment of the child’s pension for the period of the graduate diploma course, which is due to finish in June 2008.
  7. RECOMMENDATION

  8. The Committee is RECOMMENDED to note the report.
