This report presents responses received
in the course of a statutory consultation on a proposal to extend the 30mph
speed limit on the B4017 Abingdon Road at the north end of Drayton village proposed by developers as part of works to
create a new access for a residential development.
The
Cabinet Member for the Environment is RECOMMENDED to:-
(a)
not approve the proposals to extend the
speed limit as advertised; and
(b)
instruct
officers to consult on a revised proposal to introduce a 40mph limit in place
of the existing 50mph limit between Drayton and Abingdon.

The Cabinet Member for
Environment considered a report (CMDE7) which presented responses received in
the course of a statutory consultation on a proposal to extend the 30mph speed
limit on the B4017 Abingdon Road at the north end of Drayton village as proposed by developers as part of works to
create a new access for a residential development at the location shown at
Annex 1.
Mr Tole confirmed that having looked again at the consultation responses
officers had concluded that the better option appeared to be to downgrade the
50 limit to 40. Therefore consultation would be undertaken on that proposal and
if there were no objections received to that proposal then the proposal would
proceed on the basis of today’s deliberation.
However, if objections were received then the matter would need to come
back before the cabinet Member for determination.
The Cabinet Member for Environment agreed that that suggestion appeared
to the most pragmatic solution and so having regard to the arguments and
options set out in the report and the representations made to him confirmed his
decision as follows:
(a) not to approve the proposals to extend the speed limit as advertised; and
(b) instruct officers to consult on a revised proposal to introduce a 40mph limit in place of the existing 50mph limit between Drayton and Abingdon.
